Visas

There are many types of visas, but they all fall into two main categories: nonimmigrant visas for temporary stays, and immigrant visas for permanent residence.

Nonimmigrant visas

Humanitarian visas

“Humanitarian visas” is more of an umbrella term than a single visa type.

T Status (T Visa)

A T visa permits eligible victims of human trafficking to remain in the United States for up to four years if they cooperate with law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of human trafficking, although this cooperation may be waived in certain circumstances. This status is also available to eligible family members of the victim. T visa holders and their eligible family members are authorized to work and may qualify for certain federal and state benefits. They may also apply to adjust their status to lawful permanent residence.
